Why Essential Oils?
I don't know what I would do without these oils. A common phrase that gets used once someone incorporates these beautiful oils into their lives - and it's 100% true. It's one of those things though where realising only happens through personal experience, learning, and immersion into the natural world. We use essential oils in our home to help with emotional balance, to help manage stress, to create or use as natural cleaning products, to inspire and lift moods, to help us sleep, as well as support our immune systems when they need it most. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. The more we use them the more use we find for them.
There's a reason essential oils have been used for thousands of years... because they are effective. Why use them today? Because they are still, if not more, effective. They are natural and they support holistic healing. These little bottles of liquidy oils are your connection back to yourself; back to a time where we knew how to look after ourselves. Where we were in tune with nature and how both we and it have co-evolved to support each other. Back to tuning in to your body and seeing what it truly needs deep down.
Dōterra and Me
I was raised primarily to get evidence; scepticism without trust was a requirement. Underlying all this was a more spiritual side that all the women of my family were privy to. But like more of the older generations, were quiet and sometimes fearful of it. I remember the night my grandma performed what I now realise was a form of Reiki healing on me. She said someone showed it to her and it helped her relieve pain. The ran her hands continuously over my head where a migraine was throbbing and it disappeared in 5 min. It is only 20 years later than I now understand the significance of what she did, as well as the natural healing capabilities she had, albeit unaware of them (or was she?).
There was also a natural curiosity within me; I've always asked why (it drives my partner insane at times - and if you have ever done Human Design then I have Gate 61). Needing to know how things worked and why things are done they way they are is something that runs deep in me. I have always been very open too, not necessarily conforming, totally rebellious, and not affected by the taboos that so restricted others. These factors shaped my teenage world and then 20s in a very interesting way. I went from an independent, rebellious, confident, and strong person to someone who was very insecure, broken, rejected, irritated, angry, and destructive. It wasn't until my late 20s when I signed up to do a Life Coaching course that things started to change. My awareness increased, realisations hit me over the head, and my true learning started.
It was natural for me, like SO many other people, to get drawn to essential oils during this stage of my life. The oils had an instant effect on me. I remember smelling Frankincense and I was sitting back in church as a little girl enjoying the hymns and the smells that churches are so familiar with. I'm not religious but I'll always have an affinity for churches and the comfort they brought me a small child. It was then I knew I'd stumbled on to something that would change me. And I instantly saw the potential to share something super effective with everyone I came across - and that's just what I did.
At this point in my life, I'd let go of the need to prove and started trusting my intuition 100%. I was always strong and looking back I can see how it served me even when I wasn't aware. Deep down I knew these oils were a "thing", a gorgeous, life-altering "thing" that anyone could benefit from. And as I started using them more and more my conviction only became stronger. I incorporated the use of the oils in with the coaching tools and self-help modalities I'd learned and things started to change for the better. My main aim will always be to get as many people to use and try them as possible. The stories I've heard, the lives that have been changed are enormous.... And the best things I've learned so far on my journey: life shouldn't be hard darling.

I have to confess that I wasn't one of those people who did a crap load of research into essential oils and the best companies to get them from. You'd think being a scientist and having that "why" affliction would mean I do, but the research came later - yet another high five to my intuition.
I knew this brand was right (Gate 61 again - this gate just knows, period). That being the case though, not everyone works the same, and I wanted to start sharing these oils. What I learned made my head explode with wonder and excitement; not to mention trigger my innate interest in science. I'd stumbled across something amazing, for not just myself and potentially other people, but the suppliers of these oils as well as those who benefit from the foundations the company has set up. Here are a few reasons why I love this company so much.

CPTG - Highest Grade Essential Oils
The CPTG Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade quality protocol includes the following tests:
- Organoleptic testing
- Microbial testing
- Gas chromatography
- Mass spectrometry
- Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR)
- Chirality testing
- Isotopic analysis
- Heavy metal testing
Historically, gas chromatography was sufficient to identify individual components in an essential oil. However, as more sophisticated methods for developing synthetic essential oil products formed, further validation methods were needed. Over time, additional testing methods such as mass spectroscopy, chiral analysis, FTIR Scan, carbon isotope analysis and others have been developed to more accurately identify each individual essential oil constituent.
